Denzel Francis

He was born in the province of Matanzas and in 2012 he began his dance studies at the “Alfonso Pérez Isaac” Vocational School of Art. In the sixth year of his degree, he was recognized with the first prize in the improvisation contest organized by the school. In 2015, Denzel won second prize in the solo category in the school's small-format choreographic contest with Possession, a work of his own, and the following year, he won first prize in the duo/solo category with the work Discurso fraternal, created together with his brother for the small format choreographic contest, together with the third prize for interpretation. During those years he complemented his artistic training in the summer workshops given by the company Danza Espiral and Alma Flamenca, in his province. In 2017 he started the middle level at the Acosta Danza Academy, integrating the first group of students at this teaching center. During that period, he was part of the cast of works such as Belles Lettres, by Pontus Lidberg; Majísimo, by Jorge García; Tocororo Suite, by Carlos Acosta; Siervo, by Héctor Rodriguez. He was part of the shows Carmen and Don Quixote Suite, by Carlos Acosta, along with the cast of the Acosta Danza company. In April 2019, he participated in the public performance together with the Acosta Danza Company at the inauguration of the Línea Street Cultural Corridor, as part of the XIII Havana Contemporary Arts Biennial. He graduated in 2022 and was selected the most comprehensive student of the term. As part of the cast of Acosta Danza, he has interpreted the pieces Around There is Nothing (Alrededor no hay nada), by Goyo Montero; Twelve, by Jorge Crecis; Satori, by Raúl Reinoso and Paysage, soudain, la nuit, by Pontus Lidberg. He has also danced Hybrid, by Norge Cedeño; De punta a cabo, in a version based on the original by Alexis Fernández (Maca) and Two Dying Swans, by Carlos Acosta and Yaday Ponce, based on the original by Michel Fokine.
