In 1939 Serge Lifar visited Vaslav Nijinsky in the mental asylum to which he was committed. The cherished star of Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes, Nijinsky suffered from schizophrenia over the course of several decades. Lifar danced for him in an attempt to jog his memory. To everyone’s surprise, the invalid took a leap which, even if just for a moment, recalled the physical glory that once made him famous. A photographer recorded the moment. Inspired by this image, Rovira created El salto de Nijinsky in 2007 about the mysteries behind the memory, beauty and obsessions for this god of dance. Premiered in Cuba by Acosta Danza on 9 February 2018 at the Teatro Nacional de Cuba.
