Zeleidy Crespo, a dancer from Acosta Danza, has just won the United Kingdom National Dance Award 2023, in the Outstanding Female Performance in Modern Dance category, for her participation in the show "100% CUBANO" that the company directed by Carlos Acosta presented in that European nation in the first months of 2022.
The awards thus recognize the work of the company's artists for their constant participation in the scene of that country, a fact that makes Acosta Danza and its dancers one of the main ambassadors of Cuban culture on the international scene.
In 2022, Acosta Danza was nominated and won as the Best Independent Company, in the 21st edition of the National Dance Awards of that country, a category that analyzes the groups that maintain a stable job on the stages of that European nation, that do not belong to the circle of companies subsidized by the state, the government or any British governmental institution. In this 2023 edition, Acosta Danza was nominated among the Best Medium Format Companies.
The UK National Dance Awards are organized by the Critics Circle Dance Section and each year celebrate the vigor and variety of the country's thriving dance culture.
They are presented by the Dance Section of the Critics Circle, which brings together more than 60 writers and dance specialists. They are the only prizes awarded by the body of professional dance critics in the UK.
